The hiking paradise of Willingen
Around Willingen you will find signposted hiking trails through a wide variety of natural landscapes. Low-barrier as well as challenging hiking trails, which can be explored with or without qualified hiking guides, make Willingen the secret hiking capital.
The Uplandsteig is well-known, covering 64 km via a varied route past 40 viewpoints, natural monuments and the highest mountains in northern Hesse and foothills of the Sauerland. Selected Nordic walking and speed hiking routes are also available. Willingen invites you to experience the fascination of hiking in all its facets!
Tip: Take the cable car up to the Ettelsberg and enjoy the circular route over the high heath with its wonderful panoramic view!
Rothaarsteig
From Brilon in the Sauerland via the Wittgensteiner Bergland and the Siegerland to Dillenburg at the foot of the Westerwald, the 154 km long high-altitude hiking trail “Rothaarsteig” leads. Completely designed and laid out according to landscape psychological aspects, it seduces nature lovers to hike with all their senses.
The Rothaarsteig, also called “Path of the Senses”, invites you to feel, smell, hear, see and taste and explains interesting natural, cultural and historical features by means of numerous information boards and adventure stations.
Feast your eyes on fantastic landscapes that literally lie at your feet. Enjoy the unmistakable silence of nature. And take a seat on forest sofas, forest swings and Vesper islands in the Rothaarsteig’s own design. Here you are guaranteed to find peace and quiet.
Sauerland Höhenflug
“Only flying is more beautiful” than hiking on the Sauerland Höhenflug. The 243 km long hiking trail starts or ends in Korbach and forks at the Röhrenspring hiking triangle into a route to Altena and a route to Meinerzhagen.
Grand views and a close-up experience of the Sauerland nature are guaranteed here at an altitude between 400 and 800 meters. The route can be hiked without major inclines, so that families and less experienced hikers can explore the heights of the Sauerland.
